Disorders of the sternoclavicular joint

Presentation

Lesions of the sternoclavicular joint are characterised by localized pain and swelling - or deformation in (sub)luxations.

There is pain during and/or limitation of active and passive movements of the shoulder girdle.

The most important lesions are:
  1. Traumatic dislocation
  2. Ligamentous sprain
  3. Posterior sternoclavicular syndrome
  4. Osteoarthritis
  5. Sternoclavicular hyperostosis
  6. Septic arthritis
  7. Rheumatoid Arthritis
