Shoulder Girdle

Sprain of the Subclavius muscle

Symptoms

The patient complains of localised pain at the mid -clavicular area and the front of the shoulder.

Clinical Signs

• The pain may be provoked at the end of active and passive elevation of the scapula.
• The resisted- depression of the shoulder girdle is also painful.
• The differential diagnosis consists of a lesion of
  • the latissimus dorsi muscle --> also pain on resisted adduction of the arm.
  • and the pectoralis minor muscle --> also pain on resisted forwards movement of the shoulder girdle.

Treatment

Deep transverse friction is the treatment of choice
