The Shoulder
Clinical Examination of the Shoulder Girdle
Sprain of the Subclavius muscle
Treatment:
- Deep transverse friction is the treatment of choice.
- It is performed for about 20 minutes on alternate days.
- The lesion is usually cured after about ten sessions.
Technique
- The patient lies supine, the arm abducted and in lateral rotation.
- In this position the subclavius muscle is well palpable.
- The therapist puts his middle finger, reinforced by the index just below
and parrallel to the clavicle on the painful spot.
- Friction is given
by a supination - pronation movement whereby the belly of the subclavius
is rolled between the frictioning finger and the clavicle.
- The active phase is the (fast) supination movement.
- During the passive (slow) phase the hand is brought back to the pronation position, however without loosing contact with the skin.
