The Elbow
There is a combination of
limited passive movements and painful resisted movements
The limitation is of the non capsular type.
An uncomplicated tendonitis at the elbow does not result in any limitation of passive movement. However, some exceptional contractile lesion may be accompanied by a slight limitation in non capsular way.
The following situations are possible:
-
There is a slight limitation of the flexion,
in combination with pain during maximal isometric extension.
This pattern is caused by an extended muscular or musculotendinous
lesion of the triceps.
-
A slight limitation of the passive extension,
together with a painful resisted flexion. This indicates an extended muscular lesion of the brachialis muscle or the biceps. Even a myositis ossificans is possible with such a pattern.
-
There is a slight limitation of extension in
combination with a painful resisted extension of the wrist.
Very exceptionally, a tennis elbow type II may be complicated by a limited extension of the elbow.
