The Shoulder

instability

Treatment of minor instability banks on three pillars

  1. Active fixation of the scapula.
  2. Train strenght and propriocepsis of the antagonists of the deltoid: the latissimus dorsi en the pectoralis major

In the beginning only isometric exercises starting from 90° of abduction. The purpose is to train the muscular feeling and the active relaxation of the deltoid. A caudal movement of the humeral head is furthered.

later on also isotonic exercises: active adduction movements, using weights and a pulley - in the beginning only with a short lever, later with the use of the stretched arm.

finally coordination- exercises: training of contractions of the antagonists during active abduction movements of the arm. - this in an attempt to pull the head of the humerus in a caudal direction during the active abduction of the arm.

  3. Proprioceptive exercises for the rotator cuff muscles
