The Shoulder

The treatment consists of one or two infiltrations with 10-20 mg triamcinolone at the clavicular insertion of the ligament.

The lesion is situated very exceptionally at the coracoid insertion.

Technique:

• The patient is brought into the half-lying position, the shouldergirdle slightly elevated.
• The coracoid process and the lower caudal aspect of the clavicle are easily papated.
• A 3 cm needle is fitted to a syringe containing 20 mg of triamcinolone-acetonide.
• The needle is inserted just cranial to the coracoid and moved in the direction of the insertion at the clavicle.
• When ligamentous resistance is felt the product is infiltrated drop by drop, starting medial to the AC jointline and over about 2 cm towards the midline.
• During the whole procedure the tip of the needle stays in bony contact.
