The Shoulder

Clinical Examination of the Shoulder Girdle

Passive movements

  • Three passive tests are performed.
  • Attention is paid to the range of movement, the influence on pain and the end-feel:
  • The passive elevation is executed via an axial and upwards pressure on the olecranon of a flexed elbow.
  • The other hand stabilizes the trunk at the contralateral side of the neck.
  • The movement is pushed through, until a hard ligamentous endfeel is reached.
  • Passive adduction and passive abduction of the shoulder girdle are performed at both sides simultaneously.
  • Endfeel is once again ligamentous.
