Subcoracoid Bursitis

Differential diagnosis:

Anterior capsular contracture:

Pattern: An isolated painful limitation of the passive lateral rotation together with an abnormal endfeel.

Differential diagnosis is based on two accessory tests:

• Lateral rotation in 90° elevation is normal in a subcoracoid bursitis: At 90° of elevation the pectoralis major no longer compresses the inflamed bursa.
• Passive horizontal adduction is very painful because the inflamed subcoracoid bursa is painfully squeezed between upper arm and scapula.
