ARTHRITIS : DISTRACTIONS

The distractions give no result

Expected result

A fast subjective improvement of the complaints may be expected. If, after three sessions, there is no diminishing of the pain ( less nocturnal pain, less pain at rest and less distal radiation, then any further treatment with distractions will be abandoned. Amelioration of mobility (ROM) usually occurs later, and is sometimes only obtained after capsular stretchings have become possible again- when the condition has subsided to stage I.

Correct diagnosis?

Check whether a capsular pattern is indeed present.
Correct indication?

Mechanical arthritis with a strongly inflamed synovia (stage III or stage II in combination with a spastic endfeel or with nocturnal pain) form the indication for distractions.
Correct technique?
No reaction to the distractions

In the case of a good indication and a perfect technical execution, about 50% of the treated artrites react well.
