The Shoulder

Technique:

• The patient lies supine. The examiner stabilizes the scapula: hand on the coracoid process and the fingers on the scapular spine.
• The other hand holds the humerus well proximal and so that the patient remains relaxed.
• The examiner now draws the humerus forwards, meanwhile stabilizing the scapula or even pushing it down to the couch.

Meaning

The amount of movement available is compared with that of the normal side. Increased movement may be indicative of anterior instability.
