The Shoulder

The long head of the biceps originates from the supraglenoid tubercle and from the superior rim of the glenoid.
Initially, the tendon runs intra-articularly and in a lateral and anterior direction.
It then turns around the minor tubercle to continue its course in the bicipital groove in a distal direction.

This groove is easily palpated at the antero-lateral side of the humerus.
If one thumb is placed longitudinally between the two tuberosities, the sharp medial edge of the lesser tuberosity can be felt during lateral rotation and the greater tuberosity during medial rotation of the arm.
