Immobilizational arthritis

History and Spontaneous Evolution:

Patients over 60 years of age

After immobilisation (local -fracture of humerus- or general - haemiplegia or general illness)

Typical spontaneous evolution:

  • First a gradual increase of pain and limitation of movement
  • Then a stabilization with maximal pain and limitation
  • Decrease in pain after about six months is followed by spontaneous improvement of mobility.
  • The spontaneous evolution may take up to a year.
