The Shoulder
Acute Subdeltoid Bursitis
Treatment of the subacromial part
Local infiltration with Triamcinoloneacetonide
Technique:
- The patient sits, the arm hanging in a neutral position.
- The lateral edge of the acromion and coraco-acromial
ligament is identified.
- A thin needle, 5 cm long, is inserted about one cm under the acromial edge.
- The needle is then further moved, in a slightly cranial
direction under the acromion.
If resistance is felt before it has passed to nearly its full length
it should be slightly withdrawn and the direction adjusted.
- The infiltration is given while withdrawing and reinserting
the needle several times. This fanwise infiltration is important in
order to reach the whole of the subacromial bursa.
