The Shoulder

Technique:

• The patient sits, the arm hanging in a neutral position.>
• Gentle palpation of the entire superficial part of the bursa determines the area of tenderness, which is carefully mapped.
• The needle is inserted at the centre of the tender area until it hits the bone.
• The needle is then moved between humerus and deltoid as far as the outer edge of the tender area. On withdrawing, a little of the product is injected.
• This manoeuvre is repeated several times as to infiltrate the whole area in a fanwise manner.
