The Shoulder
Capsular Stretching
Intensity
The stretching is given with a reasonable amount of force, provoking some discomfort at the time.
What is felt after the procedure provides paramount information about the required intensity.
- If there is no increased pain after the procedure, the stretch power has been insufficient and there will be no result. Hence, power must be increased at the next session.
- Too much force will result in increase in irritation and pain for a longer period (more than two hours).
On the next occasion power should be slightly adapted.
- So the amount of force applied must be such that there is some afterpain for the first few hours after the procedure.
- It is therefore wise to stretch the shoulder out gently during the first occasion and gradually increase the amount of pressure during the next sessions.
