Type I is not reacting on deep transverse frictions
A type I tenniselbow is rare but usually reacts very well
on a few sessions with deep transverse massage.
In case there is no result, the following questions should be asked:
Are you sure about the diagnosis?
If the palpation is not correctly executed it will always be painful ( the lateral margin is always tender to the touch). Hence the diagnosis of a type I tenniselbow is made wrongly.
Sometimes there is a double lesion ( not rare in tennis elbows) and besides a lesion of the extensor carpi ulnaris longus (type I), there exists also a tendonitis of the extensor carpi radialis brevis.
Is the deep friction done technically correct?
Do not make the mistake to perform the friction on the lateral
side of the lateral margin of the humerus;
The tendon takes its origin at the anterior aspect of the margin. That's where the friction should be applied.
