The Elbow

Tenniselbow / Type II

The origin of the extensor carpi radialis brevis on the lateral epicondyle.

Occurrence

Classical type: 90% of the tennis elbow

frequent over use lesion in tennis players, labourers and cleaners

It rarely occurs under 30 years and over 60 years.

Most of the time the pain is felt in the area of the epicondyle but it can also fade out to the wrist.

If no infiltration treatment is given, the spontaneous recovery may take up to 2 years. Recurrences are very unusual after a natural recovery has taken place

Treatment is never easy. If the treatment is carried out injudiciously or with a careless technique, relapses should be expected almost certainly.

Furthermore, after a successful treatment, good profylaxis is a must.
