The Elbow

Landmarks:

The cranial border of the olecranon is easily felt (1).
Also the posterior margin of the ulna can be well palpated (2).
The broad joint line between humerus and radial head is easily felt a few cm
distal of the olecranon border and slightly lateral of the olecranon.(3).

The joint line becomes even better palpable with the arm in slight flexion and if the patient is
asked to perform pronation and supination movements.

The needle is inserted at the joint line and just lateral of the olecranon.
