The Elbow

Monarticular Steroid-sensitive Arthritis

History:

The pain is spontaneous in onset and the elbow very soon starts to swell .

Clinical Examination:

A marked capsular pattern is found.
The endfeel is muscular spasm during the acute phase, later on the
endfeel is harder.
The joint is warm to the touch and synovial thickening can be found
on palpation over the head of the radius laterally.

Treatment:

Two injections with 20 mg triamcinolone with a two weeks interval
are symptomatically very effective.
The patient may be pain-free for many months, whereupon the
injection can be repeated.
Sometimes a hard and painless limitation may persist.
