Olecranon Bursitis

Treatment

• Aspiration of blood in haemorrhagic bursitis. Reaccumulation of the fluid is prevented by a compressive bandage during a week. Infiltration of steroids may provoke the development of a septic bursitis.
• A septic bursitis should immediately be treated with antibiotics and/ or drainage.

The disorder may become chronic. The bursal wall is thickened and the bursa fills with dense fibrous tissue containing painful granulations.
Here surgical excision may be necessary.
